This is the story of The Brenie Family, an average family with an average life. They were very lucky, and they seemed to always get the things they wanted. They rarely were sick, and no one in the family had died since Great Grandmother Destiney. They were beautiful and had lovely tanned skin from the sun, being as they lived on a beautiful island near the beach and were outside much of the time. They would dance and sing and were always cheery and loved everyone and everything and no misfortune ever came their way.
What I just told you may be the story you so much wish to hear, a story of love and life and happiness. But, sadly, the story I just told you is not, in any way, true.

The Brenie family were not lucky, and were sick ever so often. For most of them, their skin was very pale, almost white, and almost every year a member of the Brenie Family would die. They did, though, happen to live on an island. However, this island was an ancient island, full of mysteries and darkness.
They were not an average family, not average at all.
They were not an average family, not average at all.
It all began in the early hours of the morning on a very recent Monday, with the man of the family, son of Millionaire Mr. Monty Brenie, Thomas Brenie. He was the only person left in the family that looked like a normal person. Everyone else; his father, mother, his wife and daughter, had pale skin and strange colored eyes.
On this particular morning, Thomas was out for his daily early morning jog around the neighborhood. It was still dark outside.
"Boy, when I get home I'm going to have a nice stack of Pancakes, and eggs and milk and bacon! I'm starving!" Thomas exclaimed to himself. He was approaching his house.
But, sad as it is, this not so ordinary man on a, actually, not so ordinary day, was to meet his fate. As he approached his home, he saw something very strange, even frightening on the ground. It was a great, dark shadow, slowly rising.
"What is that?" Thomas wondered out loud, his voice shaking slightly.

What ever the shadow was, it was full of terror. Slowly, it continued to lift itself from the ground. Shadows swirled around it, coming from it, coming to it, fleeing from it. Then all the shadows came together and took the form of a man. Whether it was truly a man or not, one thing was sure, it was dark and frightening.
Thomas stopped in his tracks. The person, if it was a person, had stood up and was slowly walking towards him. Thomas was scared out of his wits! He had half a mind to run screaming down the road calling for help, but he thought, "My family is in there, in the house, and this creature is outside, able to break in and kill them at any minute? I must protect them!"
With that he gained all strength needed and ran towards the house to warn his family. He turned back and saw that the thing was coming towards him, slowly, slowly, now more quickly.

Thomas ran to the door. He turned the nob but it would not move! He pulled and pulled on the door but it would not open! The creature was closing in on him, it was coming! What to do? he thought frantically, What to do?! "Oh!" he cried with a look of relief and triumph on his face. "I forgot I locked the door!
Thomas looked in his pockets. "Key, key, where's the key?!"
He found it. He stuck the key into the door and turned it. He went to take the key out but it would not budge. He turned the nob of the door, but it the door would not open! He pulled and pulled, and turned and turned but it the door would not move!
Suddenly the key flew out of the door. Water poured out of the key hole and from the cracks and from underneath the door.
Thomas stepped back from the door. He was soaking wet with water, and... what was it? Blood! Blood was leaking into the water. "What's going on?!" Thomas thought as he fell to the ground. "What is happening?!"

Thomas looked in front of him. The shadow was coming towards him, closer and closer. It was covered in blood and had red eyes. Darkness was surrounding the creature. It blocked out light.
"No, no, no, NOOOOOOO!" Thomas screamed. "Stay away demon! Back I say!" He pulled out his pocket knife to stab the figure but suddenly he felt a cold hand clutching onto his arm. He looked and saw a woman with long black hair, pale skin and grey eyes was grabbing him! She was covered in blood. He screamed and wriggled free from her grasp, falling to the ground.
He limped away from her only to find the terrifying shadow leaning down upon him! All life was draining from him. He felt cold, colder then winter, cold as death. His vision was blurring out. He could not speak, he could not breath, he could not see. The woman was grabbing onto Thomas once more, and from her hands water came and slowly leaked over him.
He could feel it. The cold.
He knew it.
He was dying.

Thomas' last thoughts were of his daughter who was sleeping at this time. As he thought of her smiling face he could barely feel the cold water flooding over him.
Darkness surrounding him. Death sneaking in...
"Nienna..." he whispered before fading into darkness.
